Reports from our Dog Park Checks are available below.

One of the services that we provide the community is keeping an eye on the local dog parks.  We visit them seasonally to look for dangerous conditions and possible sources of disease.  Additionally, we collect fecal samples from each park and analyze them at the hospital.  We publish the findings online so the community can be aware of any safety issues we find.  We also film a short segment at each park and post it on our Facebook page.  Like and Follow us on Facebook to be the first to know about any dangers at the dog parks.

It should be noted that dog parks are generally safe for most dogs.  The number one danger is other dogs at the park.  Of course, we’re unable to address this issue and encourage owners to keep a close eye on their dog, keep your dog close if other unknown dogs arrive until the new dog’s temperament is determined, and/or leave if other dogs are not friendly.

Do not get in to the middle of any fights.  Throwing something like a coat in to the middle of the fight can often startle the dogs.  If bites or attacks occur, it is important to get information about the other party just as if it were a traffic accident.  This information can be used by law enforcement to help determine the vaccine status of the dogs involved.  It may also be necessary to help settle medical bills and other legal issues.  If people do not share the information willingly, it may be wise to get a license plate number of other identifiable information for law enforcement.  We also encourage you to always file a bite report with Animal Control so they can look into the vaccine status of the other dog(s).

This page is more about the conditions at the local dog parks than dog parks in general.  There are lots of dog park tips out there, and there isn’t much more we can add to what’s already been said.  We encourage you to do some research before heading out.

Remember that each dog’s experience at the park is going to up to you and them.  Be vigilant while at the park as what may be safe for every other dog, may be dangerous to yours!
